Having been involved in the landscape industry for 25 years now, Matt has evolved into a dynamic, well-rounded design/builder. His design style has been refined into what could only be called an art form. Matt tackles issues in terms of scale, balance and color on virtually every project much akin to that of an artist.
Matt started his career in his early teens as a retail nursery clerk and achieving his California Certified Nurseryman's Certificate by the age of 17. He later went on to landscape construction learning the intricacies of artistic design and the orderly progression of installation.
With hundreds of complete landscape projects under his belt, Matt strived to set himself apart from the rest of the industry. To do that Matt had to create a niche unlike anybody else. It was at that point, some twelve years ago, that he discovered the art of creating artificial rock for use in his landscape projects. He was no longer bound by size or scale with the real rock he was accustom to using. This started his experimentation with other elements for use in the landscape that were not typically common.
After a long career in the Sacramento area of California, Matt was offered the exhibit Contractor position to construct the "World Class Primate Complex" at the Fort Worth Texas Zoological Park. After completion, Matt moved his family back to his home state of California where he resides in the East Bay area today. With several very large rock and water features to their credits, Matt Wilson's company, Second Nature is the Northern California leader in the 'resort style' design and construction that is so popular in the world today.
Matt has gone on to form a group of talented designers, craftsmen and sub-contractors that have been trained in his style from the ground up. Having learned everything about construction and design first hand gives Matt insight others just don't have. He is not arbitrarily bound to the thinking of why things can't be done. He has an innate ability to create multi-dimensional design solutions that most people find wonder in.
Second Nature produces a line of artificial landscape boulders and rock panels for the landscape/Architecture industry as well as their own projects. Matt is licensed in the State of California as a General Building Contractor, Landscape Contractor as well as Earthwork & Paving and holds the following license classifications B, C12, C27 #654759. He is also an ex member of the American Zoo and Aquarium Association, in addition to being a California Certified Nurseryman #790.
